You may be going out with a person for the first time; after having met them at a party, on an online dating seeking website or it may be a blind date. Meeting a person who is potentially that perfect someone can be intimidating. If you have met this person on an online dating website then it can be slightly easy for you as you know a few things about this person already and can use the learned facts as a trigger to start a conversation. Though, you have talking to this person for a month or more before you met, you would have certain chemistry when you talk to them; things can feel a lot different when you meet your match in person.
An important issue is the location where you should meet up. When meeting someone for the first time you should always be vigilant and meet at a public place during the day. Usually, a coffee shop is a good option and you can always go and have lunch if you feel that things are hitting off. Similarly, it is easy to go excuse yourself after a cup of coffee if you feel that things aren’t going as anticipated.
In order to prepare for going on a date you should read a newspaper or two just to be up-to-date with the current news, events and gossip. You will find that there is plenty of material in the newspaper that can be used to prompt conversation and avoid uncomfortably long moments of silence. You should dress well and try to put your best foot forward when meeting this person for the first time. After all you have spent all this time seeking them out and should not lose the chance to start something special. You could not be asked to make any more of an extra effort.
When on the date, try to start with some light hearted questions like how their day been and how their work was. Inquire if their journey was okay and if they are feeling well. After that you can ask if they would like a drink and go for a meal. Hopefully, they will say yes to either one of the suggestions. When choosing a restaurant try to avoid one with low lighting and soft music as this gives the impression of a romantic date and you don’t want to come across too strong on a first date.
Try to mix up conversation with an offbeat question like, ‘What would you like to change if you had a time machine and could only go in the past?’ Such questions can reveal some personality traits and can lead to some more interesting conversation.
Just remember to be natural and answer every question honestly. As long as you are enjoying and being truthful, you will find you have no trouble securing a second date and soon you will be able to tell your friends about the success you have had with the online dating seeking.
